Ohio-based singer-songwriter, Imber Solis, releases her latest single, “Take It! (It’s Your Time).” The bubbly track features empowering lyrics with a soulful twist of pop and jazz.
“This song has been a labor of love, and I think you can hear that in every 5/4 beat and honest words. With every song we write, we try to make it interesting to the ear; you'll note key changes, a change in the time signature (5/4 and 4/4), and unusual phrasing. The upbeat feel of the song made me want to write positive lyrics to match. The first phrase that came to me was ‘Take It!’ and the rest of the song blossomed around that,” shares Imber Solis.
“The theme of the '50s came about during a studio session when we decided the song sounded like it needed a hand jive dance, and I ran with it! The final video was a tremendous demonstration of community support. Every single item—including the amazingly beautiful '50s car, and even filming locations—was donated. People that showed up were all volunteers, friends and family,” says Imber Solis.
Imber Solis first started writing music when she was in the third grade. As a teenager, she learned to play the guitar with a song book comprised of oldies rock. She took vocal lessons and was a part of numerous choirs and musical theater productions throughout high school and college, and even started a women’s barbershop quartet at Kent State University. Songs written during her time at college became her debut album, and the album’s release party was turned into a fundraiser to benefit her local suicide hotline.
Her music is a unique blend of adult contemporary, folk and pop. She has played in a number of cover bands over the years, and has also contributed vocals to a variety of musical collaborations. In 2020, she met her co-writer, Scott Lee, who helped her create the Imber Solis music project.
She will be releasing her new EP, The Looking Glass, by the end of 2021.
