Kye Da Guy drops his latest single, “Ghetto Gobstoppers.” Featuring powerful lyrics and a smooth, piano-infused beat, the thought-provoking track touches on the racial injustices and economic challenges that affect so many Black communities throughout the nation.
“A Gobstopper is a candy that’s hard and colorful on the outside, yet soft and sour in the middle—a metaphor for not just myself, but for so many middle and lower class Black Americans,” explains Kye Da Guy.
Kye Da Guy’s musical roots are heavily steeped in the culture of his historic hometown of Savannah, Georgia—a place where Kye Da Guy found his heart, his voice and ultimately, himself. From a young age, Kye Da Guy was a leader, who always pushed his way to the front—taking what he earned.
During his adolescence, he experienced traumatic situations which forced him to learn how to adapt to his surroundings. Rising above the temptations of street life, Kye Da Guy became a corporate intern, working nine-to-five jobs, so that he could help his single mother provide for their family.
His music reflects his unwavering ambition through the struggle and pain that he’s endured throughout his life. His motivation to create a lasting legacy is fueled by his trust in the Lord; he believes wholeheartedly that if the Lord is with him, then nobody can stand against him.
Looking ahead, Kye Da Guy has two exciting projects coming up sometime this year—he’ll be dropping a brand-new mixtape and also an album.
