Dempsey Bolton Releases Reflective Alt Pop Single “With My Thoughts”
Los Angeles, CA — Rising pop singer-songwriter and producer Dempsey Bolton reflects on life on his latest alt pop single "With My Thoughts" — streaming now on all major platforms.
Dempsey Bolton's latest alt pop single "With My Thoughts" comes in hot with a groovy mid-tempo beat with strong bass and snapping drums. The lyrics describe a man who is struggling at a party and unable to escape his negative thoughts or have fun in social situations. The energetic yet silky smooth vocals and catchy rhythm help tell the story, but the song eventually takes a darker turn and becomes more introspective, like a bad drug experience. Bolton effortlessly delivers and anthemic pop single with witty yet hooky lyrics and songwriting combined with an insatiable production - a combination that is quite rare.
Speaking to the production Dempsey Bolton shares, "The production was a labour of love for me; 1 wrote the song on acoustic guitar and recorded the demo the next day, tracking the live bass, electric guitar and putting together the drum loop in a couple hours. After that, I had what ended up being a hundred or so synth and vocal parts that I eventually wittled down into the 2 choruses and 2 verses. 1 knew I wanted a B section but 1 wasn't sure where to go. Then I stumbled onto an organ and recorded my voice in a key that was 3 steps lower, thinking I could pitch it up and have it be a fun effecte I ended up keeping my scratch "doo doos" and sampling them into the tremolo'd vocal you hear in the back half of the song. The section felt so dark and vibey by then and I knew I wanted to bring the chorus back again but also have it reflect the mood so I pitched down the vocals and had 3 different textures to fatten it up. The result is probably my favourite song to date."
Dempsey Bolton's ability to tell a story from his individualistic perspective through melodious and captivating songwriting is likely going to go down in the record books. We expect big things to come from the rising artist and expect nothing but the catchiest grooves coming soon!
