Los Angeles, CA — Singer, songwriter and producer, Charles on TV, drops spirited synth-soul single, “This Xmas (I Want You),” alongside official music video—streaming now on YouTube. Watch “This Xmas (I Want You)” video today on YouTube, here!

Charles on TV releases his latest single, “This Xmas (I Want You).” Written by the artist on a warm September day in New York City, the nostalgic holiday-themed track features satirically-strung lyrics and breezy instrumentals that pay homage to the legendary Beach Boys.

The official music video for “This Xmas (I Want You)” is set in a post-apocalyptic world, where Charles on TV is seen as the last man on earth. As he celebrates an extinct holiday alone, draped in an assortment of interchanging scarves, his irony-filled queer love ballad depicts being young, naïve and ultimately enamored by a f*ckboy.

“This Xmas (I Want You)” started as a stupid love song. Like, a deliberately kitschy, cringeworthy love song,” explains Charles. “The romantic Christmas cliché felt right, so I ran with that, using a recent, not so great one-night stand as inspiration. I can’t pretend I don’t hide pain behind humor. I probably did that here, too. This is a song romanticizing empty love—a ballad that shouldn’t be, given the meaninglessness of one evening,” shares Charles on TV.

“I wrote this entire song in the studio. For some reason, I was thinking about Christmas that day, and I had been listening to one of my all-time favorite bands, The Beach Boys … then emerged the skeleton of a satirical beachy ballad. Releasing a song with Christmas in the title in September felt on brand, and besides, it wasn’t really about Christmas anyways!” Charles on TV exclaims.

Originally from New York, rising synth-pop artist, Charles on TV, is known for his innate ability to fuse elements of synth-soul, pop and new wave jazz—delivering a throwback vibe with modern style. Reminiscent of Gorillaz, Tame Impala, Tyler the Creator, and the Beach Boys, Charles on TV’s sound is constantly evolving. His unmatched lyricism is often satirical and sobering, providing listeners with an introspective message. For instance, his debut single, “Love”—a queer love song—is an intimate account of his journey toward sexual discovery, while his following single, “Strong Man,” documents thoughts and conversations he both had and overheard during the political and social turmoil that enveloped 2020.

Charles on TV’s 2021 single, “Golden Alligator,” illuminates audiences, as it examines what he believes to be the era of perpetual falsehoods. His latest single, “This Xmas (I Want You),” is part of his debut EP, “Truth & Lies”—a diverse 6-track compilation describing the trials and tribulations of becoming a present-day artist in a world filled with uncertainties.
